A CELTIC BOOK OF THE DEAD
Derek Bryce
From the editor :
A fascinating glimpse into the beliefs and traditions of the Celtic culture, Celtic Legends of the Beyond includes stories of premonitions, omens, burials, magic books, strange rites, ghosts, exorcisms, lost souls, and creatures of unearthly origin. Enveloped in a mysterious, archaic, and legendary quality, many of the accounts related are first-hand reports of actual psychic events. Others are narratives passed down through generations of storytellers and spread throughout Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man.
Anatole Le Braz collected these remarkable stories during the late 19th century, and published them as La Legende de la mort en Basse-Bretagne in 1893. This new edition of his work, translated, and with an introduction by Derek Bryce, also includes the popular Celtic tale of "The Crystal Palace," from F. M. Luzel's Contes Populaires de Basse - Bretagne, first published in France in 1887. This book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the history and folklore of the Celtic tradition.
